A St Catherine man who caused injuries to a number of school children two years ago was today convicted on the charge of dangerous driving.
Forty-two year-old labourer, Sheldon Carty of Ewarton, St Catherine was found guilty by Resident Magistrate Marcia Simone Wolfe-Reece in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court.
He was fined $10,000 or 30 days hard labour and his driver's license suspended for 12 months.
Police Corporal Peter Lewis of the St Catherine North Traffic Department testified that on November 15, 2010, Carty was the driver of a vehicle loaded with students of the McGrath High School in St Catherine.
Lewis said on reaching a section of the Ewarton Main Road, Carty failed to negotiate a corner and collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
Nine students were injured.
