One of the country's longest serving educators, Samuel Fitz-Henley has died.

He passed away at the University Hospital of the West Indies early this morning.

Mr Fitz-Henley was the founder and principal of the Fitz-Henley Secretarial Institute, which helped thousands of Jamaicans get training in shorthand, typing and secretarial duties.

He was honoured by the Jamaican Government in 2005 with the Order of Distinction. He has also received awards from the United States, England and Australia for his contribution to their education sector.
