Head of the Police Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis says the Traffic Headquarters at Elletson Road in Kingston, is open today Saturday, December 29, and will be opened to the public tomorrow, Sunday, December 30, to allow motorists to check on their traffic tickets before they go to the tax office to make payments on Monday morning.

“The Traffic Headquarters will open by 8 a.m. on Sunday until … .” said SSP Lewis, declining to give a closing time.

The Traffic Division Head said everything is being done to enable motorists to get the information needed to allow them to take advantage of the Traffic Ticket Amnesty which ends on Monday, December 31.

In the meantime, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) offices in Cross Roads, Kingston, May Pen, Clarendon, Lucea, Hanover and Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth are open until 3 p.m. this afternoon to facilitate persons paying fines.

Persons are reminded that they need to have the traffic ticket number when going to pay the fines. Only tickets issued before September 21, 2010 are eligible for the amnesty. These tickets are not payable via the online tax facility, and MUST be paid at a tax office.

The TAJ says no motor vehicle and driver’s license transactions will be processed today at those tax offices that are open.

Yesterday, Minister of National Security Peter Bunting said the Traffic Ticket Amnesty will not be extended after December 31, 2012, and the full extent of the law will be applied to motorists at the end of the amnesty.
