Senator Arthur Williams, who sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound is in excellent spirits, colleague senator Tom Tavares Finson has said.

Williams, the leader of Opposition business in the Senate, received the injury to his leg on Tuesday morning.

Tavares Finson, who is deputising for Williams in the Senate, said the Opposition's senate leader is expected to return for duty next week.
