Special constable, civilian arrested for alleged robbery, corporal escapes

A Special Constable and a civilian were arrested during a joint operation carried out by personnel from the Westmoreland Police Division and members of the Anti- Corruption Branch today after allegations that they were involved in a robbery.

The police say a motor vehicle with three men was seen in the Tank Hill area of Negril, Westmoreland early this morning.

It is alleged that the men went to premises where they held up persons at gunpoint and robbed them of an undetermined sum of money.

Shots were reportedly fired but no one was injured.

A 9mm pistol was later found at the scene of the robbery.

The police say personnel from the Westmoreland Police who were on patrol duties in the area responded to calls made regarding the robbery and were able chase and apprehend the Special Constable and the civilian.

The Special Constable is on interdiction.

The police say the third man ran from the vehicle and managed to elude the police.

According to the police, it was later discovered that he is a Police Corporal assigned to the Anti Corruption Branch, Montego Bay, who is currently on vacation leave.

The police say all efforts are being made to locate him.
