Speaker of the House of Representatives, Michael Peart says he’s to meet with Public Defender, Earl Witter this week as final preparations are made for the submission of a report on the 2010 Tivoli Incursion to Parliament.
Last night he told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that a final date has not been set but he is confident that the report would be submitted by the end of the month.
This is the second time Peart has given a commitment for the tabling of the report which is being compiled by the Office of the Public Defender.
He was left embarrassed in January when Witter failed to submit the report, citing resource shortages at his Office.
The Jamaican Parliament has been assisting with the completion of the document and has indicated that issues relating to the organisation of the Office of the Public Defender will be thoroughly investigated as soon as the report is completed.
Witter has been harshly criticised by local and international organisations for the non-completion of the report, almost three years after the operation by members of the security forces in Tivoli Gardens.
More than 70 people were killed in the operation to execute an extradition warrant on former west Kingston strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.
