A man was taken into custody at the Coral Gardens Police Station in Montego Bay, St James, early this morning after an incident in which a shot was fired.
It is reported that, shortly after 2:00 a.m, a prostitute, who was leaving the apartment of a client in the resort town, entered the car of the man, triggering the alarm.
The man's lawyer say the prostitute was reportedly confronted by the carís owner, who later fired a shot.
She was not hurt.
The lawyer further said the man called the police who responded and seized his gun before taking the shooter taken into custody.
The man is believed to be a licensed firearm holder.
A police source told The Gleaner that the man is refusing to cooperate with the police and as a consequence, efforts to swab his hands have failed.
However the lawyer said the man was acting on his advice not to have his hand swabbed until his legal team was present.
Early indications are that he is likely to be charged with Assault at Common Law.
The Coral Gardens Police have confirmed that an incident did take place but would not provide full details.
