The president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association Clayton Hall says recent utterances by the education minister have been affecting the morale of teachers.

On the weekend, the education minister Ronald Thwaites, said there will be no further employment of teachers this year as it would affect Jamaica's deal with the International Monetary Fund.

He also said teachers may have to consider pursuing other careers.

However, Hall says those comments are irresponsible.
