Digicel's new call plans are confusing, says LIME

Telecommunications Company LIME has responded to rival company Digicel’s introduction of a new suite of low cost call plans for prepaid mobile customers.

Yesterday Digicel unveiled its Brawta, Gimme Five Extra, Double Bubble and the $2.99 plans which will be billed on a per second basis.

The company also has a $2.49 Plan and $2.89 Sweet Plan which will be billed per minute.

The plans come with additional free minutes for local and international calls, free texts, cash back and bonus credit.

LIME believes Digicel’s multiple offers will confuse customers.

It also adds that calling plans with confusing information that requires customers to do one thing to get something else will probably not deliver any incremental value.

LIME says it believes that a simple, low rate is what consumers need.

However, CEO of Digicel Barry O’Brien has insisted that the company’s new calling plans were designed by customers to meet individual needs.

LIME was the first to take action after the Office of Utilities Regulation announced a reduction in the mobile termination rate to $1.10 as of July 1 this year.

The company last week introduced one low rate of $2.99 for local and international calls to the US, Canada and to UK landlines.
