233 persons killed in car crashes since January

Two-hundred-and-thirty-three persons have been killed in 207 road crashes since the start of the year.

The National Road Safety Unit says that represents a 17 per cent increase in fatal crashes and a 15 per cent rise in fatalities compared with the similar period in 2012.

The unit says fatalities are projected to increase by 16 per cent in 2013 when compared with last year.

It says pedestrians accounted for thirty 30 per cent of the road users killed in traffic crashes showing a 15 per cent increase when compared to this time last year.

According to the unit, 11 children have been killed in nine traffic crashes since the start of the year.
