Eight persons, including a man wanted for murder, were taken into custody yesterday in connection with the seizure of a high-powered rifle in New Haven, St Andrew.

The identity of the wanted man has not been released, but the Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) says he was wanted by the St Catherine North police for murder and shooting with intent.

The other persons taken into custody include three females and four men.

CCN says as part of its new anti-crime initiative, ‘Operation Resilience’, a police team carried out an operation at premises in New Haven.

The police say during a search, an M-16 assault rifle with a magazine containing 27 cartridges, 18 rounds of ammunition, military paraphernalia and a laptop computer were discovered.
