The police a short while fired teargas and warning shots as an angry mob descended on a house in Bromington Hall, St Elizabeth where a man had been holed up since this morning after he allegedly chopped his child’s teen mother before setting her house on fire.

The fire was quickly brought under control, and the teen mother, 18-year-old Kimberley Simpson, taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

But the accused attacker remained locked inside the house since 10 a.m.

For several hours the police had been trying to remove him but were prevented from doing so by the angry mob.

Late this afternoon, the police got help from the Jamaica Defence Force and increased their numbers as they again attempted to remove the accused.

However, the large crowed moved in on the house, some hurling large rocks at the policemen who were preventing them from getting to the accused.

The police responded firing teargas and several shots to disperse the crowd and after about five minutes, secured calm and managed to remove the accused from the house.

They then left the community with the man.
