Two arrested for alleged lottery scam involvement

The police have arrested 19-year-old Tafari Haddad and 36-year-old Denise Sutherland for their alleged involvement in the illicit lottery scam.

Haddad and Sutherland were charged yesterday.

They are jointly charged with illegal possession of identity information, using premises to possess identity information, obtaining money by means of false pretense and conspiracy to obtaining money.

The accused have been in police custody since last Friday when they were accosted following a raid at a premises they occupied in the Jerusalem Housing Scheme, in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth.

The police say during a search they found a book which contains names, addresses, phone numbers and social security numbers of persons living in the United States among other paraphernalia.

Haddad and Sutherland are scheduled to appear in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
