Gov't takes on Viralee Latibeaudiere

Lawyers representing the Government are to head to the Court of Appeal today to challenge the court action of the former Commissioner of Tax Administration Jamaica, Viralee Latibeaudiere.

The Government wants the Supreme Court order granting Latibeaudiere leave to the Judicial Review Court to be thrown out.

It is arguing that after being granted leave Latibeaudiere failed to file certain documents with the court within the specified time and as such the order should be quashed.

The Government also wants the injunction barring it from filling the post of Commissioner of Tax Administration Jamaica lifted.

The Court of Appeal is to begin hearing submissions today.

Latibeaudiere was dismissed from her job in July, but she has objected to her termination.

In August, she applied for and was granted an injunction barring the government from filling the post and given leave to review court to challenge her removal.
