Missing Old Harbour fishermen found

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard is reporting that the two Old Harbour fishermen who went missing are now safe.

The JDF says Richard Hamilton and Ian Crooks were rescued from Rocky Point in Clarendon yesterday.

The men had been missing at sea since Sunday.

It is reported that Hamilton and Crooks departed from Old Harbour Bay for Middle Cay, Pedro Banks but never turned up.

The JDF Coast Guard and Air Wing launched a rescue operation to find the men, who were located yesterday afternoon at Rocky Point.

The JDF says it is reported that the boat’s engines failed causing the vessel to go adrift.

They say Crooks indicated that during the ordeal he managed to repair one of the engines on the vessel and then made his way to safety in Rocky Point.

The JDF is reminding all fisher folk that a small craft warning still remains in effect for the offshore areas of the north and south coast due to strong winds and rough seas.

Fisher folk are advised to remain in harbour and not to risk their lives or property by venturing to sea in these conditions.
