An organisation representing migrant workers is accusing police in Ontario, Canada of racial profiling committed against Jamaican and other Caribbean workers.
The organisation, Justice for Migrant Workers, says it is outraged over racial profiling used by the Ontario Provincial Police to obtain DNA from approximately 100 Caribbean migrant workers during a sexual assault investigation in October and November.
Community organiser with Justice for Migrant Workers, Chris Ramsaroop, says the police conducted its investigation with what appears to be a total disregard for the suspect description they issued.
Ramsaroop says workers were targeted who did not fit the suspect description.
The Justice for Migrant Workers filed a complaint yesterday with the Office of Independent Police Review Director regarding the matter.
Ramsaroop says the organisation will also request that the Ontario Human Rights Commission investigate this matter.
