The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) says a mentally ill man may have caused an accident involving one of its buses in downtown Kingston this morning.

And the State-owned bus company says the vehicle was being driven by a trainee under the supervision of a certified instructor.

A woman and her infant child who were hit by the bus while on the lay-by on South Parade remain in hospital.

Marketing and communications manager at the JUTC, Clinton Clarke says the driver also suffered minor injuries.

He says the mother is at the Kingston Public Hospital and may have suffered a broken limb, while her child is at the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

Clarke says the windshield of the bus was damaged and the vehicle has been removed to the company’s maintenance division for repairs.
