The Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington yesterday took part in a so-called ‘walk about’ in downtown Kingston as part of efforts to assure the commitment of the Police to protect the Chinese and their businesses.

Other high-ranking officers of the force and China’s ambassador to Jamaica, Dong Xiaojun, also participated in the event.

The group visited with more than 200 Chinese businesses in the busy town center.

Commissioner Ellington urged the business operators to invest in Closed Circuit Television systems and other recording devices that may be used for investigative purposes should the need arise.

He also stated that the Police would continue to partner with the Chinese community to reduce the risk of criminal victimisation and promote business confidence among the Chinese.
