The hearse carrying the body of former South African President Nelson Mandela has arrived in his ancestral home of Qunu, in Eastern South Africa.
This is the final stop before tomorrow’s state funeral for the anti-apartheid icon who died on December 5.
There were tears and smiles among the large numbers of people who lined the roads in the rural region to pay their respects as the cortege passed by.
The coffin was flown from an Air Force base in Pretoria escorted by two fighter jets.
The BBC reports that in line with tribal custom, Mandela's grandson Mandla accompanied him on the journey, speaking to his coffin to tell him he was on his way home to rest.
