An assailant who broke into a house in the Grantham area of Frankfield, Clarendon this morning is now dead while a member of the household remains hospitalised.

The dead man was allegedly among three gunmen who forced their way into the house about 3 o’clock.

It is reported that the armed men kicked open a door and held up the occupants at gun point.

However, one of the occupants fought back, and in the ensuing struggle, one of the gunmen was disarmed, while the other two escaped.

The householder was taken to hospital with multiple wounds to his head and upper body.

The police say they seized a handgun with eight bullets.
