The Opposition spokesman on National Security Derrick Smith, has on behalf of the Jamaica Labour Party, expressed regret at the killing of district constable Paul White, who was shot and killed yesterday as he and another female corporal were on duty in the August Town community.
"We express our condolences to the family of District Constable White. We also wish to express our support for the officers of the Jamaica constabulary force who are grieving at the loss of their colleague," Smith said.
In light of the injury of the female officer, Smith went on to express best wishes for her swift recovery.
The Opposition security spokesman noted that; "This is a time of year when all the members of our police force are under pressure to keep us all safe from criminals and I want to encourage them to stand together, as we support their best efforts in very difficult circumstances to keep the nation safe and secure."
Smith in appealing to Jamaicans to honour and respect the police force stated that, “I want to further remind citizens that, we all need to do whatever we can to keep each other safe. We must remember that police have families just as we do, whatever we can do within our communities to help them to secure us, let us do so”.
