Sixteen persons, including three women, have been taken into custody for their suspected involvement in the deadly lottery scam following three days of coordinated operations across three western parishes by the Lottery Scam Task Force.

The operations also resulted in the arrest of a man who was wanted by the St Elizabeth police for several crimes, including murder.

The identities of the suspects are being withheld pending further investigations.

The operations began on Wednesday when four men were arrested during a series of simultaneous raids in Green Pond, Maroon Town and Lilliput in St James.

Eight persons were arrested on Thursday when the task force shifted its operations to several other communities in St James and Westmoreland.

The operations ended yesterday with raids in Trelawny, Westmoreland and St James during which four people were taken into custody.

According to the police, three of the suspects detained yesterday were held in a house in West Gate Hill, Montego Bay, where nearly 300 lead lists were discovered.

Investigators say this is the largest number of lead list found in a single location since the crackdown on the lottery scam began.
