The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has expressed regret at the death of former Montego Bay Deputy Mayor, Princess Vernon.

Vernon was killed in a hit and run accident in Georgia, United States last week.

JLP General Secretary, Dr Horace Chang, says the party leadership and members were disturbed about the tragic way in which she died overseas.

He says Vernon was a very active politician, who touched the lives of many people.

The deputy mayor in the St James Parish Council from 1981 to 1983, Vernon also served as councillor in the Spring Mount division.

She is remembered by East Central St James MP Ed Bartlett as a fearless fighter for the JLP and a great defender of the poor.
