CRICKET: WI, New Zealand face off in third ODI

West Indies will be aiming to go 2-0 up when they face hosts New Zealand in the third One-Day International (ODI) this afternoon at 5 o’clock Jamaica time at Queenstown.

West Indies are leading the series 1-0 following a tense two-wicket victory on Boxing Day – December 26.

That victory represents the first win of the New Zealand tour for the Caribbean side.

The second match at McLean Park was called off after persistent afternoon rain left wet patches in the outfield.

For today’s game, the West Indies squad has been further weakened as batsman Darren Bravo has returned home due to personal reasons.

Bravo will miss the rest of the ODI series and the Twenty20 matches.

West Indies are also without three of their most experienced players.

The Jamaican pair of explosive opener Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels along with Kieron Pollard of Trinidad and Tobago are missing through injuries.

Gayle is suffering from a hamstring, Pollard a knee injury and Samuels a chronic right-wrist injury.
