Thousands displaced in Central African Republic

Published: Saturday January 4, 2014 | 9:32 am Comments 0

The United Nations says the number of internally displaced people in the Central African Republic has more than doubled to 935,000 since December.

Around 500,000 have fled their homes in the capital Bangui alone, which is almost half the city's population.

The UN says some 60 per cent of those displaced are children.

The conflict has pitted Christian and Muslim militias against each other.
