Digicel rebates 4G customers after service interruption

Telecommunication company Digicel has announced that it is offering a rebate to 4G customers who were unable to access the internet from their mobile phones yesterday because its system was down.

Digicel reported extensive problems yesterday after the fibre optic cables which support the network were damaged by vandals.

In a statement this afternoon, Shelly-Ann Harris, Digicelís senior communications manager, said, customers began receiving data rebates last night.

"Customers who were on data plans would have lost those hours during the outage and so we want to give back those lost hours," Harris said.

Digicel says the incident is being investigated.

It also indicated measures will be put in place to prevent a repeat.

"We are taking immediate steps to significantly enhance our secondary back up resiliency," Harris said.
