Chris Gayle has replaced Tamar Lambert as captain of Jamaica’s senior cricket team for the Regional Super50 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.

Gayle was recommended for the post by the national selection panel, a decision ratified by the Jamaica Cricket Association during a board meeting last night.

The 34-year-old Gayle guided Jamaica to the Super50 title two seasons ago, while Lambert led the team to a semi-final exit last season.

Gayle is currently in Australia recuperating from an injury.

The selection panel is expected to release the names of the 14-member squad later today following the fifth and final trial match at Sabina Park.

The regional Super50 will be played from January 30 to February 6.

Multiple winners Jamaica and defending champions Windward Islands will contest the opening match.
