A temporary police post has been set up in Race Course, Clarendon as the Jamaica Constabulary Force moves to improve safety and security in the area.

The area has been without a permanent police station as the Exeter Police Station was closed more than five years ago.

Head of the Area 3 Police Assistant Commissioner Derrick Knight says the police post will allow cops to better respond to the needs of residents.

Assistant Commissioner Knight, notes that residents previously had to journey to Lionel Town to access service because of the absence of the police station in Race Course.

He points out that effort is being made to have a permanent structure erected in the area.

Speaking with our news centre ACP Knight said gang activity has been driving the number of murders in Clarendon.

According to him, the York Town gang and the Bullard Content gang are the main perpetrators.

In the meantime, he says the police are seeking the publicís assistance in locating a man called Quincen Albert Stewart otherwise called 'Massapong'.

Knight says he is being sought in relation to the January 18 murder of Dwayne Lewin in New Longville in the parish.

He says police intelligence reveals that Stewart also goes by the names Owen Alexander Lord and Leslie Young.

Stewart is being asked to surrender to the May Pen police by 6 o'clock tomorrow evening.
