Tired of gender prejudice
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I strongly agree with the sentiments in Sean Major-Campbell's Letter of the Day ('Women good enough to be bishops, too') published on Friday, July 18, 2014. There has also been a call recently for greater gender equality in the Jamaican Parliament. I believe we are missing the important points.
Back in the day, men were the sole leaders of the society and women were just background music, so to speak. Those were dark days and in our time we would find it hard to survive.
In our modern times, both men and women are working almost side by side, and hence we have seen tremendous growth in many spheres of life.
However, I am tired of the gender prejudice. If women are more qualified, I have no problem with all the ministers being women, and the same applies for the males as well. The focus should be getting the job done effectively.
