Natalie's Journal - Week 1
So, now that I'm 12 weeks post-partum, I have decided to up my workout intensity. Day two into this week, as luck would have it, I felt on the verge of a cold. Two of my children and my husband are fighting one. I can't let anything derail my fitness plan at this stage. I loaded up on vitamin C and seem to have staved it off. Thank goodness!
This week's exercise programme was hard core. I managed to add two yoga classes to my regular cardio, and strength training to work on my flexibility. My programme has so much variety that I'm never bored. The classes are so challenging that it's very uplifting just to finish. In circuit class this week, I almost cried during the hill-climb segment on the bike; it was so hard. The spinner next to me saw me struggling and said, "Come on! Just breathe! We are almost there."
That really gave me what I needed to push through the struggle. I think we can be our own worst enemy at times, giving up too soon when what we need to do is keep on pushing through that barrier. On the mornings when I feel too tired to go to exercise, I try to remember how good I feel afterwards and that gets me refocused.
I had a few nutritional hiccups this week. My biggest problem is night-time snacking. I have been trying to overcome it, but my resolve seems weakest at this time of day. It's hard when I have my children's snacks around and I so love Doritos! Keeping the food journal helps. I need a plan to maintain the control at night.
Overall, I feel stronger and fitter and I managed (just barely) to button up a pair of my pre-baby jeans! But we've only just begun.
