The annual Heineken Carib-bean Association of Neurosur-geons (CANS) Golf Classic will be held on Saturday, January 31 in Montego Bay at the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course, Rose Hall.

Heineken returns as title sponsor for the second consecutive year and Dr Carl Bruce, consultant neurosurgeon at the University Hospital of the West Indies, revealed at a press briefing last Wednesday that the objective of this year's event is to raise $5 million to purchase surgical machines for the hospital.

"This year, we will be using the proceeds from our annual golf tournament to purchase an anaesthetic machine and a surgical machine (for spinal injuries) for the University Hospital of the West Indies."

He also said that the support that they received at last year's event was very overwhelming and they were more than happy with the turnout. They are hoping that they will get a similar level of support this year and look forward to an amazing day of golf.

Heineken's brand manager, Imru James, said the brand was pleased to be a part of the event.

"The tournament is geared towards providing hospitals with necessary equipment to aid in saving lives and we are happy to partner with the CANS team to help them achieve their goals. Also, the event brings out a nice cross-section of golfers that adore the Heineken brand."
