Venezuelan Soldiers gear up for reconstruction activities in Westmoreland
A contingent of approximately 60 Venezuelan soldiers commenced setting up camp in Brighton, Westmoreland today. The group is in the country to help with the reconstruction efforts in that community and other areas in St. Elizabeth, aiming to restore dwellings, and replace roofs on homes and churches.

ONR reports progress in collection of donations
The Office of National Reconstruction has reported some progress in the collection of donations for the Relief Fund. Yesterday, Mobile Service Provider, Digicel handed over its first instalment of $50 million dollars to the ONR. This represents a quarter of the committed $200 million pledged by the telecommunications giant.

Relief contributions to be distributed in non-partisan and transparent manner
Jamaicans living overseas are being re-assured that their hurricane relief contributions will be distributed in a non-partisan and transparent manner. This is according to Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Delano Franklyn, who stated that the process of recovery would be conducted speedily and efficiently with the assistance of the Office of National Reconstruction.

Mental Health Officers reach out to affected communities
Mental Health Officers have been visiting communities to talk with persons experiencing feelings of despair and depression in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan. As a result, several sessions have been held to address the signs and symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
Health Ministry continue to receive donations
The Ministry of Health is continuing to receive donations from concerned and generous agencies and individuals. Contributors include the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the United Nation's International Children Fund (UNICEF), the Red Cross, the Mexican Embassy, the Venezuelan Embassy, Nestle Jamaica Limited, Cable and Wireless Jamaica Limited, the National Health Fund, Food for the Poor, among others.

West Indies Conference of Seventh Day Adventist provide assistance for 80 families
Over 80 families from southern St. Elizabeth, who were devastated by the passage of Hurricane Ivan, have received assistance from the staff of the West Indies Conference of Seventh Day Adventists.

The members operating under the banner of Adventists Disaster Relief Agency (ADRA), recently undertook the task of restoring temporary roofing to two houses, as well as, the distribution of packages of emergency food and supplies to needy individuals from the communities of Banton Town, Lover's Leap and Yardley Chase.

The Agency's assistance will be executed in a phased programme, the first of which will focus on the provision of items for physical comfort and temporary solutions such as tarpaulins for roofs, food and shelter. In the second phase, areas will be revisited and provided with seeds and other planting material so as to assist families and communities with the production of food.
