Davies wants more info on IMF lending terms

The Opposition spokesman on finance Dr Omar Davies wants to know the conditions under which the Government intends to accept money from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Last month Prime Minister Golding said his administration was willing to sit with the parliamentary Opposition to discuss options for the country if it had to approach the IMF for help.

But while the Government seems to be moving closer to re-establishing ties with the fund, it’s yet to consult the opposition on the matter.

Dr Davies said he has met with the social consensus committee but negotiations with the IMF have not been discussed.

The finance minister Audley Shaw was yesterday expected to make a presentation to the Cabinet outlining the Government’s framework for a possible return to the fund.

It’s reported that a Government team is to visit the IMF in Washington next month to finalize the arrangement.
