Vardinoviannia track meet round up
Steve Mullings finished second in the men’s 200 metres at the Vardinoviannia track meet in Rethimno, Crete yesterday to record Jamaica’s best effort at the championship.
Alonzo Edward, 19, of Panama won the race in 20 seconds flat, one-hundredth of a second better than Mullings.
In the women’s equivalent, Simone Facey was fourth in 22.90 and her Jamaican teammate Aleen Bailey ended fifth in 22.93.
Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas won the event in a world-leading 22.33, from American Lashauntea Moore, who clocked 22.66.
Earlier, Facey took fourth place in the women’s 100 metres in 11.31, while Bailey was fifth also in 11.31. American Carmelita Jeter won in 10.97.
In the women’s 100-metre hurdles, Delloreen Ennis London was third in 12.60 and her Jamaican teammate Lacena Golding-Clarke finished fifth in 12.73.
American Lolo Jones won in a world-leading 12.47 seconds.
In the women’s 400-metre hurdles, Nickiesha Wilson of Jamaica took fourth in 56.56 while Tricia Smith ended third in the women’s Triple Jump with a leap of 14.26 metres.
