National team arrives in Turks and Caicos

Jamaica’s 14-member national team arrived in the Turks and Caicos Islands yesterday for the 2009 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships, which tees off on Wednesday.

Fabian Campbell, the new national champion, will lead the Jamaican contingent.

The team also features 14-year-old Jonathan Newnham, the youngest golfer on the senior team. He will play on the Hoerman Cup team, which includes Fabian Campbell, Xavier Rose, Paul Thompson and Mark Blakely.

Jamaica will compete in five different trophy categories: Hoerman Cup, Ramon Baez Trophy for 35 and over, Francis and Steel-Perkins Trophy for over 50, Hamar Dayes Trophy for 60 and over and the George Teal Trophy for ladies.

The 72-hole Championships will end on Saturday, August 8, 2009.
