A superb 123 by Mahela Jayawardene led hosts Sri Lanka to a comfortable six-wicket win over Pakistan at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium today.

The result means that Sri Lanka have taken an unassailable three-nil lead in the five-match series.

Pakistan made 288 for eight in their allotted 50 overs, including 66 from Umar Akmal, brother of wicket keeper Kamran.

Angelo Mathews and Muttiah Muralitharan ended with two wickets apiece.

Jayawardene’s and Upul Tharanga, 76, put on a 202-run opening wicket partnership to put Sri Lanka on victory path.

Sri Lanka then eased home with 21 balls to spare with the score on 289, a record at the venue.

Kumar Sangakkara chipped in with 37 while Thilina Kandamby scored 32.

Saeed Ajmal was the most successful bowler for Pakistan with two for 54, while Adbul Razzaq and Mohammad Aamer got a wicket each.
