Nominations for Courtney Walsh awards opened

Nominations for the fifth annual Courtney Walsh Award for Excellence opened last night during a press conference at Cuddy’z Sports Bar and Restaurant in New Kingston.

Nominations will close on September 4 and the winner will be announced on October 14 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

The Award was instituted to formally recognise the achievements of former Jamaica and West Indies cricketer Courtney Walsh.

It was launched in 2005, in collaboration with the CHASE Fund and comprises a cash award of $500,000 with a specially designed trophy.

The cash award and trophy will be presented to a person who displays a high level of humility, integrity, discipline and other exemplary qualities while excelling in sports.

Former Jamaica and West Indies cricket captain Jimmy Adams was the first recipient in 2005.

The other winners were 1996 Olympic gold medallist Deon Hemmings-McCatty, former Jamaica’s senior netball captain Elaine Davis and former Jamaica and West Indies cricketer Nehemiah Perry.
