JPS tariff announcement today
The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) is to announce today whether it will be granting a rate increase for the Jamaica Public Service (JPS).
In March this year, the JPS applied to the OUR, for an increase in the rates it charges customers.
The JPS has requested an average 23 per cent increase in the electricity rate.
At the time of submitting the request, the light and power company had said it needed this rate increase to facilitate infrastructure and other works.
If approved, residential JPS customers could see their bills going up by 5 to 6 per cent while the bills for large commercial customers could go as high as 30 per cent.
Already JPS customers have seen an increase in their bills for this month.
This increase is reflected in the Fuel and Independent Power Provider (IPP) charges on electricity bills.
The JPS says this month’s increase is due to the cost of producing electricity.
