Foster Hylton wins at Daegu
Berlin World Championship gold medallist Brigitte Foster-Hylton recorded one of two Jamaican victories at the Daegu Pre-Championships Meeting in South Korea today.
Foster-Hylton won the women’s 100-metre hurdles in a championship record 12.60 seconds ahead of American Dawn Harper, who clocked 12.75.
Nikeisha Wilson of Jamaica was third in 12.96.
Dwight Thomas scored Jamaica’s other victory. He took the men’s 110-metre hurdles in 13.36 seconds.
Meanwhile, former 100-metre record holder Asafa Powell and his Jamaican teammates Sherone Simpson and Shericka Williams were beaten into second place.
American sprinter Tyson Gay defeated Powell in the men’s 100 metres. Gay won in a time of 9.94, while Powell finished second in 10 seconds flat. Jamaican Nesta Carter was third in 10.15.
Simpson clocked 11.35 for second behind American Carmelita Jeter in the women’s 100 metres. Jeter won in 10.83 seconds.
Williams clocked 23.18 for the runner up spot in the women’s 200 metres won by Bahamas Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie, who won in 22.90.
Mardrea Hyman of Jamaica did not finish the women’s 15,000-metre event, which was won by Nancy Langat of Kenya in four minutes 6.80.
