Kenwyne Jones scored twice as Sunderland defeated Wolves 5-2 yesterday to climb to eighth in the English Premier League.

Sunderland benefitted from penalties early in either half, with Darren Bent scoring the first in the ninth minute and Jones the second in the 48th.

Sunderland defender John Mensah chested the ball into his own net in the 50th minute before Kevin Doyle equalized from close range in the 55th minute.

Jones restored his team’s lead with a long-range strike in the 70th minute before Michael Turner’s header and Bent’s deflected shot sealed the win for the home side.

Defending champions Manchester United and Chelsea lead the points’ table with 18 points each, three ahead of Liverpool and Tottenham on 15 points apiece.
