Jamaicans flock passport office

The Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) had to call for extra security this morning as hundreds of people flocked its offices for a second day.

The massive crowd at PICA’s Constant Spring Road offices follows the announcement on Tuesday that passport fees are to go up on November 16.

In addition to the private security at the location three police units were also noticed this morning trying to control the crowd.

The cost of obtaining adult passports moves from $2,500 to $4,500 while passports for minors will now cost $2,700.

Persons wishing to replace passports which are lost or stolen will be required to pay $9,500 for the adult document and $5,700 for minors.

PICA has said the increases are necessary, as the agency will now have to finance its operations.
