Shadow Energy Minister for Jamaica, Phillip Paulwell and his deputy Kern Spencer have stepped down as Opposition Spokesmen on Energy with immediate effect.

Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller in a statement to the Jamaican media said she has accepted the resignations and the party is cooperating fully with the investigations ordered by Energy Minister Clive Mullings.

Mrs. Simpson Miller revealed that in their letters to the Party, Mr. Paulwell and Mr. Spencer stated they would be step down while investigations continue into alleged improprieties regarding the Cuban light bulb project.

The resignations follow Mr. Paulwell’s declaration yesterday that the allegations are little more than half-truths, innuendos and malicious lies.

The investigation into the Cuban light bulb project began two weeks ago when Energy Minister Clive Mullings brought the matter to national attention.
