Australia take control

Pakistan’s hopes of salvaging the third and final Test against Australia looked bleak as the tourists ended day two on 94 for four, trailing by 425 runs in the first innings.



Pakistan, who trial 2-0 in the series, self-destructed with two run-outs. Salman Butt 34 not out was involved in the dismissals of both captain Mohammad Yousuf for seven and Umar Akmal for eight.



Earlier, Australia resuming on 302 for three declared their first innings on 519 for eight. Captain Ricky Ponting, who was unbeaten on 137 overnight, went on to score 209.



He and Michael Clarke 166 put on 352, the second-highest fourth-wicket partnership in Australian Test history.



Danish Kaneria led the bowling for Pakistan with three for 189, while Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer picked up two wickets apiece.
