Portland is preparing itself for the impending tropical storm, Olga.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has activated its parish disaster committee and zonal officers.

Parish co-ordinator of the ODPEM, Denise Lewis said \'all shelter managers along with the various emergency teams are on high alert to deal with any eventuality\'.

The disaster co-ordinator also cautioned residents living in the flood prone areas of the Rio Grande Valley, Manchioneal, Swift River and Hope Bay to prepare to evacuate should flood waters threaten.

Residents are busily stocking up on non-perishable food items, candles, lanterns, flash lights, and other emergency supplies.
