Surrey lining up surprise bid for WI star Brian Lara
Surrey are lining up a bid to tempt West Indies batting great Brian Lara out of retirement with the offer of a contract to play 20/20 cricket.
The 40-year-old Lara has been in the nets at The Oval in England this week and has began talks with Surrey\'s cricket manager Chris Adams and chief executive Paul Sheldon.
Lara, who has not played competitive cricket for two years and retired from international duty after the 2007 World Cup, is famous for holding two of the most significant batting records in cricket.
Surrey already have Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds registered for the domestic English 20/20 competition, and - depending on his commitments for his country - Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla may also be available.
