The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is working with the management of Megamart to collect the payments for stolen electricity.

Megamart has admitted that one of its engineers installed devices on its electrical systems, which tampered with the readings on the JPS meters.

The proprietor of Megamart Gassan Azan has since reported that the management did not know of the illegal devices at its two stores in Portmore and Kingston.

He also reported the engineer has been fired.

JPS has now completed a detailed analysis of the irregularities at the two Megamart stores. The light and power company stated the conclusion of the analysis has been sent to Megamart.

The incident forced the proprietor of Megamart, Gassan Azan, to resign as the chairman of the country’s promotions agency Jamaica Trade and Invest.
