PNP youth arm calls for Warmington’s removal

The Patriots, the Caucus of Young Professionals of the People’s National Party (PNP)is calling for the immediate removal of Everald Warmington from his posts of Minister of State in the Water and Housing Ministry and as Chairman of the Constituency Development Fund Committee of Parliament.

The call comes against the background of the decision by the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) to launch a major investigation into allegations of impropriety and irregularity in the award of certain Government contracts by the St. Catherine Parish Council to the Strathairn Construction Company Limited.

The OCG claims that Startairn is Warmington’s company.

The South West St Catherine Member of Parliament (MP) has challenged the Contractor General Greg Christie to prove the allegations of impropriety he has made against him.

Christie says his office has received a sworn statement which alleged that at least one senior Public Officer of the St. Catherine Parish Council has received 'kickbacks' for his role in the improper and/or irregular award of contracts to Strathairn Construction Company.

However, the South West St Catherine MP said Strathairn Construction received no illicit contracts and that his resignation from the company in 2007 still stands.

The Contractor General says at the time the sworn statement was given to his office in 2008, Warmington was allegedly still in possession and control of the cheque book for Strathairn Construction Company Limited.

In addition, he said the Statement also alleged that after purportedly resigning from the post as a Director in Strathairn, Warmington added the names of his sister and brother to the particulars of the company's documents.

Further, Christie said it was alleged that Strathairn was operating from the same address as that of Warmington's Constituency Office at 40 East Street, in Old Harbour, St. Catherine.
