Peru beats Reggae Boyz 2-1
Peru has beaten the Reggae Boyz in their international football friendly played at the Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
José Carlos Fernandez made it 2-1 in the 84th minute shortly after he was brought on as a substitute.
Peru had first taken the lead in the fourth minute courtesy of a defender’s goal scored by Jamaican Demar Phillips.
But in the 19th minute Omar Cummings scored the equalizer from 30 yards out.
Jamaica’s coach Theodore Whitmore had made four changes to the Reggae Boyz’ team, which beat Costa Rico 1-nil on Sunday for this evening’s match against Peru.
Striker Luton Shelton of Valarenga in Norway, Nicholas Addlery of Puerto Rico Islanders and the US-based pair of Omar Cummings of Colorado Rapids and Shavar Thomas of Kansas City Wizards have been included in the starting line-up.
They have replaced Dicoy Williams, Dane Richards, Kavin Bryan and Sunday’s goalscorer Ryan Johnson, who plays the San Jose Earthquakes in the US Major League.
The starting eleven was completed by goalkeeper Dwayne Miller, Jermaine Taylor, Adrian Reid, Eric Vernan, Richard Edwards, Demar Phillips and Jason Morrison.
The 39th ranked South Americans have secured victories over Honduras and Canada in recent games.
The meeting with Jamaica was however just the second between the teams, which played to a 1-all draw when they faced off at the National Stadium in 2006.
