Challenging times for new police commissioner

Opposition spokesman on National Security, Dr. Peter Phillips said the new police commissioner assumed the position at a very challenging time in the history of the constabulary force.

He said, \"the new commissioner is taking office at a time when the island’s murder rate is likely to surpass the 1500 mark\".

He also reported that the past weeks have also been marked by a spate of police killings, with four policemen being killed within seven days.

The Jamaica Police Federation (JPF) highlighted that the new commissioner will have to find a way, to bring together all the components which will lead to effective crime fighting.
