The Jamaica Labour Party candidate for the Dry Harbour division, Geoffery Waugh, today retained his seat following a magisterial recount in the Brown’s Town Resident magistrate court.

The People’s National Party (PNP) councillor candidate for the division, Authur Clemetson had filed for the recount following the December 5 Local Government elections.

However, at the end of the recount today, Resident Magistrate Carol Edwards declared Mr. Waugh the winner by a slim margin of 25 votes.

The final tally at the end of the count was 1,292 votes for the JLP to 1,267 for the PNP.

The PNP had filed for recount claiming that the elections were not fairly conducted at some polling stations across the division.

Last week, the swearing in ceremony for the councillors and Mayor was postponed until Thursday after the council was informed of the court action.

PNP councillor for the Brown’s Town division, Ivan Anderson is to be sworn in as Mayor.
